Girls for a Change

By Pamela Potter

In keeping with our Mother’s Day theme of honoring women and girls, we will continue to share inspiring and effective programs — like Girls for a Change.

Girls For A Change (GFC) is a national organization that empowers girls to create social change. We invite young women to design, lead, fund and implement social change projects that tackle issues girls face in their own neighborhoods.

Girls for a Change provides young women with the tools they need to realize their full potential. Girl Action Teams with the support and mentorship of two adult women develop strategies to make an impact on their local community addressing problems like gang violence, low self-esteem, and environmental degradation. The young women move on from the program with a stronger sense of self worth and a well developed ability to think things through. Here is one young woman’s story.
